Stars Orienteering Club World Ranking Event Puslinch Tract Cambridge, Ontario Sunday, May 11, 2008 Welcome to the Middle distance World Ranking Event (WRE) of Canada! Thank you for coming and we hope that you will enjoy the race we have prepared for you. The course setter is Nick Duca, the controller is Mike Waddington (GHO), and the IOF event adviser is Vladimir Gusniatnikov (USA). Puslinch Tract is one of the conservation areas managed by the Grand River Conservation Authority. It is, at present, designated as a hiking, birdwatching and mountain biking (depending on the day there may be many bikers on the trails!!) area. The terrain has some challenging features not visible from the registration area and a busy trail system. Course setters notes: the vegetation is in the transition time between open and bare woods and small trees and shrubs getting green again. White and green delimitation are more an estimate than exact measure. Marshes/lakes. the melted snow and recent rains make the marshes seem larger than described on the map. Also, some depressions might have water in them or be wet. Please be aware. The medium distance WRE is a point to point race with individual starts. There are two courses (1 male - approximately 6.5 km, 1 female - approximately 4.9 km), and two classes in each course: M/F21, and M/F45 (masters). The masters are running the same course as elites. You have received a small map of an area where you can warm up and head towards the start area. Distance to the start (marked with orange ribbons ) is approximately 1.2 km. Please check your codes as there might be nearby controls that do not belong to your course! The map scale is 1:7500 (with IOF approval for a WRE), with 1.5 m contours. Nick is known for his talent to design a challenging and thinking course. Be warned and have fun. Please note that on the mens' elite and masters' courses there is a map exchange. Your bib number will indicate what map to pick up at the exchange control. If your bib number starts with MA_, at the map exchange head for the box marked MA2 (a volunteer will hand you the map). If you bib number starts with MB_, at the map exchange head for the box marked MB2 Please stay for the refreshments after the race. The Sprint and novice course will start after the WRE. ---------
