Winter Adventure Race Course Setter's Notes
Course Setter's Notes (Gear List below)
Saturday, 24th January 2009
- Looks like we're all set. See you there.
Thursday, 22nd January 2009
- Course design is complete, maps are printed, registration is closing today, and we're set to go. And there is lots of snow at Manfield!
- Please bear in mind that the race takes place in areas where you will encounter the general public out for a peaceful ski: be respectful of them.
- The snowshoe to ski transition (in the adventure race) will be at the chalet, so you can leave equipment there. We'll keep an eye on it while you race, so no need to carry everything.
Monday, 19th January 2009
- Please note that the main Adventure Race is two sections: a Snowshoe-O section and a Ski-O section.
Gear List *
The following list of equipment is required to be carried by each person (not by a team-mate), no matter what event you're in. This is basic safety equipment, so if we do a spot check and you don't have these items you will be disqualified:
- Whistle
- Compass
- Emergency or "space" blanket
- Toque, gloves
- Race maps (provided), and no other maps on the race course (you can use your own maps for route planning before the race).
In team events, the following must also be carried, either by one person or it can be distributed:
- One SI punch chip (provided)
- One first aid kit, including at a minimum: 1 roll gauze, 1 roll adhesive tape, 5 regular bandages, scissors, and 5 anti bacterial towelettes.
- 500ml water, or fluid of some form to drink.
* Some of this has been shamelessly borrowed from GHO's dontgetlost website, since they did such a good job of it. At least this means that regular racers will already have this equipment.
