Description
This event will be very informal, and will be a good opportunity for people new to orienteering to come and see what it is all about. We particularly encourage young children (from perhaps 6 or 7 years old if accompanied by an adult) to try out the sport. The event will be in a fairly quiet, safe, environment, right in the city of Waterloo.
If you have a compass, please bring it along. The simple $10 hiking / orienteering compasses of the sort sold by Canadian Tire (search for product number - just the number - 75-4014-6) are perhaps the best for beginners.
Schedule
Meet at 5:55pm near the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Center on Father David Bauer Drive. Park on the north side of the road, in the little gravel lot towards Waterloo/Centenial Park.
- Warmup running outdoors (10 min),
- Short O clinic: map and compass, talk & walk (20--30 minutes) for novices right at the beginning,
- Two small courses for beginners (approximately 1.5km each),
- A medium level course (about 3km long),
- Picking up flags / cool down (10 min).
