Description
This event will be very informal, and will be a good opportunity for people new to orienteering to come and see what it is all about. We particularly encourage young children (from perhaps 8 or 9 years old if accompanied by an adult) to try out the sport.
If you have a compass, please bring it along. The simple $10 hiking / orienteering compasses of the sort sold by Canadian Tire (search for product number - just the number - 75-4014-6) are perhaps the best for beginners.
Schedule
Meet at 5:55pm at Resurrection High School parking lot. Park on the south side of the lot, and follow the alley to the south, towards the railway line, for about 100m.
- Warmup running outdoors (10 min),
- O-Instructions: map and compass, 10--15 minutes for novices right at the beginning,
- One course, approximately 4km, emphasis on reading contours, with a 1.5km short cut option for beginners.
- Picking up flags / cool down (15 min).
